Trần Cao Vân (1866-1916). Patriotic scholar native of Điện Bàn District, Quảng Nam Province. As a youth, he participated in the resistance against the French and was imprisoned several times.
He joined the campaign against heavy taxes (1908) and was exiled six years to Poulo-Condore. On his return, he participated in the founding of Việt Nam Quang Phục Hội (Việt Nam Restoration League). He managed to get in touch with the young King Duy Tân to prepare an insurrection in Huế (1916). The plot failed, he was executed by the French. He left works written in Han and in Nôm (Vietnamese traditional written form)
