Essential Travel Guide for Vietnam Family Tours

So what do you need to prepare for a perfect Vietnam trip with your family here? These tips below definitely should be in your notes.

What Should be in Your Family's Luggage?

prepare for vietnam family holidays

Vietnam is a shopping paradise, so you’ll easily find necessities at great prices. To ensure a smooth Vietnam family holiday, here are some essentials:

  • Travel documents: Bring your passport, visa, travel insurance, air tickets, and tour voucher. For Visa on Arrival, prepare 2 passport-sized photos (4x6 cm) and $25 per person for the stamping fee.
  • Money: Cash and credit cards are widely accepted (notify your bank beforehand). Having some Vietnamese Dong on hand is convenient, but exchanging money here is easy, and many places accept foreign currencies.
  • Medication: If bringing a large supply, carry a doctor’s letter. Don’t forget prescription glasses, contact lens solution, and insect repellent—especially if you’re traveling with kids.
  • Camera: Vietnam’s beauty is too stunning to miss, so keep your camera or phone ready!
  • Kids’ Essentials: Pack their favorite toys, books, snacks, and clothes. While adults love new experiences, kids feel happiest with familiar comforts.

With these in hand, your Vietnam family holiday will be hassle-free and full of unforgettable memories!

The Differences in Weather Patterns in Vietnam

weather of vietnam family tours

When traveling with family, Vietnam’s diverse climate is worth noting, as weather patterns vary by region. Since Vietnam is a year-round destination, you can plan your trip based on the best conditions for your family. Understanding the weather will also help with packing!

  • Northern Vietnam (Hanoi to Sapa): Features four seasons. Spring (Feb–Apr) is warm, while summer (May–Aug) is hot and rainy. Autumn (Sep–Nov) is the most beautiful season, with golden leaves and cool air, though occasional typhoons affect the central region. Winter (Nov–Jan) is cold and dry, with rare snowfall in high-altitude areas.
  • Central Vietnam (Nha Trang to Hue): Mostly sunny year-round. November–December brings more rain, while Dalat (1,500m altitude) stays cooler, especially from November–March. Da Nang and Hue may experience typhoons from mid-October to mid-December.
  • Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet): Has two main seasons. The rainy season (Apr–Sep) sees quick, heavy showers, while the dry season (Oct–May) is hot and sunny, with cooler nights.

By choosing the right time and region, your Vietnam family holiday will be even more enjoyable!

“What Do We Eat for Dinner Mommy?”

foods at vietnam family holiday packages

Foods take a big portion of our concern on every trip. It is not really “What will we eat there?”, but more exactly is “What can we eat there?”. But Vietnam is a different story, as this nation’s culinary art is so excellent and diverse it can charm anyone. Therefore anyone is able to find something fitting their stomach, regardless of their age or nationality.

Big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) are truly food heaven, where you can find any type of restaurant for your family, from vegetarian dishes, French delicacies, Italian best known to traditional Vietnamese cuisine. The soul of food art is actually right on the pavement, not convinced yet? A “Banh mi” or a bowl of “Pho” surely will confirm their fame. The countryside is where you could experience real Vietnamese traditional meals cooked by your homestay host. And the beaches are fantastic with exotic seafood. The most beautiful thing is that they are at a very good price level.

In this country, you can enjoy the true meaning of the “Eat, Pray and Love” spirit. However, if you have problems with allergies or your kids need something special, you will need to discuss with the staff about your family conditions and the foods’ ingredients before these fantastic meals start.

Clarify What You Want to Experience

Because there are so many things here to discover! This country will be a heaven or a mess; it all depends on your plan. So all you need to do is clarify clearly what your family travels goal is, whether it is a cultural discovering tour or a beach trip.

Here is some more information for the family traveling with kids:

  • Cyclo: For a thrilling street-level tour of a city, you can’t beat a spin in one of Vietnam’s pedicabs. Negotiate the rate ahead-$5is typical for an hour—and don’t hesitate to tip.
  • Pagodas and Temples: Southern shrines are wild and wondrous, those in the North more lacquered and somber. Visit on full- or new-moon days- ask at your hotel- when Buddhists come to light incense and pray.
  • Pickup Soccer: Vietnamese children spend their park time caught up in soccer, and they’ll be thrilled if your kids join them.
  • Custom Tailors: Let your junior fashionistas design their dream outfits— and get overnight results!—at one of Vietnam’s affordable tailors.

Choose the Right Vietnam Family Tour Operator

This is the best way to ignore your worry burden, as they will help to design the perfect itinerary depending on your needs and wants, give you some travel advice, take care of each family member, and also the paperwork. Local tour operators should be on the reference list, as they definitely understand their country and its culture more deeply than any outsiders. Arranging a private tour with the specialists will be cost-saving, less time-consuming, and much more conveniences added. Don’t make your kids cry or your mother grumbles along the road. Make the right choice!

Wish you enjoy the most astounding Vietnam Family Holidays with Viet Vision Travel!

Your family will always get a twin room. For groups of three, we will try our best to find a triple room. Please be aware that in some destinaitons, triple rooms are in short supply. In organised activities, we use and regularly audit trusted local operators who are well aware of the necessary safety equipment as well as procedures, including supplying correctly fitting life-jackets and helmets.

Can we drink the water?

Your tour guide will offer advice on a case-by-case basis. If you are advised not to drink groundwater, Viet Vision Travel recommends that you pack water purification tablets rather than buying bottled water (it is somehow better for the environment).

What are the toilets' facilities like?

All of the accommodations we use will have modern flushing toilets. In some rural areas, please be advised that toilet facilities may be more rudimentary standard than your family enjoys at home. In these circumstances, it is recommended carrying hand sanitation products. However, remember – it is all part of the experience!
