The making objects in tortoise shell has existed in Hà Tiên, on Phú Quốc Island since an unknown date. Sea-tortoises are caught with net- fishing.
The shell is taken, put into shape and flattened under a trunk of tree, after having been treated by steam. Various objects are made of tortoise-shell: boxes, flower vases, mirror-frames, combs, knife- handles, spectacles frames, jewels). The shell has different colors: yellow, green, red, pink, spotted with black. Mother-of-pearl can be inlaid into the shell.
