Binh Son stupa belongs to Vinh Khanh pagoda, located in Ben Then, Lap Thach district, Vinh Phuc Province. According to a number of manuscripts the stupa was built during the Ly dynasty (11th - 12th century), but archaeologists hold that its was built at the beginning of the Tran dynasty (13th century).
This baked-earth stupa, 15 metres high, stands in the front courtyard of the pagoda, and by now has only 11 storeys. It is square at the base and grows gradually smaller as it gains in height. Each storey has on all four sides vaulted windows but the roofs do not protrude much. In terms of size, Binh Son looks like the stupa of Pho Minh pagoda in Nam Dinh province. The interior of the stupa is hollow and is built with fully baked earth, while the facade is covered with bricks decorated with Buddha statues in high or low relief.
