Architecture of Catholic churches, which originated in Europe, has existed in Vietnam for nearly 300 years. A cathedral is the centre for diffusion of Catholicism. Church architecture is very rich and diversified, depending on the concept of the parish priest and the order. While the architecture of most Catholic churches in Vietnam is mainly of Gothic or Roman styles, some features come from European and Asian architectures, for example the Church of Phat Diem.
As the temple of Christ, the Catholic church has a large sanctuary where Catholics gather for praying and listening to sermons, and an inner room, lavishly furnished and decorated, where Christ is worshipped. Catholic churches dominate the scenery with their height and bell towers.
