This communal house is located in Tho Tang commune, Vinh Tuong district, Vinh Phuc Province, which was a trading center during the Mac dynasty (16th century). It is located near two pagodas: Thuong Trung pagoda which was built in 1592 and contains many beautiful statues dating from the Mac dynasty, including the statue of Avalokitesva Bodhisatva; and Hoi Ha pagoda. The communal house is located in an area rich in cultural and art traditions.
It was built at the end of the 17th century, that is, about one century after Chu Quyen and Tay Dang communal houses. In terms of architecture, it is not as representative as Chu Quyen communal house. Worthy of note are the carvings: elephants riding, watering-the-ego dong romances, shuttlecock game, wrestling, fight against tigers, entertaining the guest with alcohol, etc.
Thus, Tho Tang communal house reflects the mode of thinking of peasants, their concept of harmony between human beings and the universe.
