Trịnh Sâm (1737-1782). Eldest son of Lord Trịnh Doanh. A veritable shogun, he usurped the power of the Lê Kings.

A good administrator, he repressed several revolts. Epicurian and debauched, but fond of literature, he loved to compose verses when visiting beautiful sites. His amorous liaison with Đặng Thị Huệ was a scandal.
